这场决赛掀起了一股社交媒体浪潮。

赛前，许多英格兰球迷引用了英国喜剧演员大卫·巴迪尔和弗兰克·斯金纳以及The Lightning Seeds乐队的英格兰足球圣曲《Three Lions》的歌词“It's coming home”（“足球要回家了”）。

这首歌又名《Football’s Coming Home》是英国1996年举行的欧洲杯足球赛官方歌曲。

《Three Lions》的开头部分引用了两句在英格兰无缘 1994 年世界杯后的评论：我们创造力不够、我们不够积极……歌词吐槽了球队“30 年的伤痛”。

然而，在MV最后，众人合唱“Football's Coming Home”，代表现代足球终于要回到发源地英格兰的口号，MV中也放入了几届世界杯中优秀球员表现的片段，展现他们对辉煌年代的深深期盼。

可以说，“It's coming home”这段旋律不仅是队歌般的存在，更成为了英格兰的一种身份标识。

在欧洲杯决赛到来前夕，一位英国飞行员驾驶飞机在空中飞出了“It‘s coming home”的飞行轨迹，以此表示他对自己祖国的支持。

但是，意大利球迷也不甘示弱。

他们发现只要改一个字母，这句英格兰的灵魂口号的意思就完全变了：“It's coming to Rome.（足球去意大利的罗马了）”。

推特上网友称，乔治王子的表情变化，代表了全体英格兰人的心情。
